Part 1

Question 1.1

  1. Explain the relationship between ergonomics and personal physical health and comfort

Imagine you are a Health & Safety inspector and are going to inspect an ICT based office to determine if good ergonomic principles have been applied:-

  1. Create a list detailing exactly what ergonomic principles you are going to look for and why.

Imagine you are a Health & Safety inspector and you need to determine if the health, safety and welfare of the workers in an ICT based office are being properly protected.:-

  1. Compose an interview list with questions you would ask the workers.  Give a reason why you would ask each question  

Part 2

Question 2.1

The computer workshop room you are working in needs a new safe practices poster to inform students of safety issues when working with computers.

  1. Produce a design sketch for this poster ensuring you cover safety issues such as ESD and safe practices when dismantling and assembling computers.

  2. Produce a poster from your sketch

Part 3

Question 3.1

Your task is to carry out Internet research and determine typical specifications for a 15" and 19" monitor. 

  1. Produce a table that records the following details for each monitor 

monitor model

monitor and screen size

horizontal & vertical refresh range

resolution range

  1. Write a short evaluation of the typical specification range for new monitors

  2. Give your recommendation for a reasonable display setting for both monitors.

Question 3.2

Two different monitors will be available to you in the classroom along with two different graphics cards.  Thus we can have 4 different arrangements of monitor/graphic card.  

  1. For each of the 4 arrangements

find out and record the maximum and minimum resolution available for the highest colour range

find out and record the maximum refresh frequency for the maximum resolution and colour range

decide which display setting is the most appropriate and print out a screen shot of the desktop.  Explain your choice.

 

Note: for part 1 you should consider...

  • the need for comfortable seating and acceptable working posture

  • how to avoid excessive eye strain and tiredness when using a VDU

  • possible causes of bodily fatigue that may be experienced by VDU operators 

  • how ergonomics and improved working conditions can help with bodily fatigue

  • how repetitive strain injury occurs
